Distracted

Written by Administrator. Posted in Articles

I want to share with you what God revealed to me last week.  We have all heard teachings of the story of Martha and Mary when Jesus came to visit and Martha was busy doing everything and Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus.  The Holy Spirit showed me another teaching of that story.  First let's read the story and then I will expound on what I learned.  Luke 10: 40-41.  "But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made.  She came to him and asked, 'Lord don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself?  Tell her to help me!'   'Martha, Martha', the Lord answered,

'you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed.  Mary has chossen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her'.  Theo and I have been studying the Kingdom of God for some time now and what the Holy Spirit showed me was that Martha and Mary were in the same house, they both loved Jesus very much but they were abiding in two different kingdoms.  Martha was distracted by all that needed to be done.  If you have ever had guests you know about preparations.  I looked up the word distract and it means- agitated, franctic, distraught, worried, turmoil, unrest, fear, stress.  Martha was abiding in the natural kingdom, looking at the events around her instead of focusing on Jesus.  The opposite of distract is collected and it means- composed, self-collected, calm, settled, tranquil, peace, serene, stillness, soothed.  Mary had chosen to abide in the Kingdom of God.  Jesus told Martha that Mary had chosen what was better and that it would not be taken from her.  Martha was abiding in the world and Mary was abiding in the kingdom.  In John 17 Jesus prayed to the Father and said I'm not asking you to take the out of the world but that you protect the from the evil one.  I could say this only speaks to women but as I talk to women and men we all struggle with distractions.  In this hour that we are in, there are distractions all around us, but if we will focus on Jesus not only will all the stuff get done, we will be calm, cool and collected.  This is a choice that we have to make as we are on this journey. I look forward to sharing with you what God reveals next.  ~ Phylis
